More than ever before, service provider sustainability is being threatened by factors beyond their direct control. A combination of smart devices, multimedia applications, unprecedented demand for bandwidth, higher expectations for flexibility and reliability and competition from new players are creating new challenges to existing business models. To meet this ever-increasing business complexity service providers will need to evolve to 4G networks.
This webinar produced by telecoms.com in association with Alcatel-Lucent will address:
• The many approaches for transformation to 4G or an all-IP architecture • Determining the right strategy to effectively capitalize on increasing demands and capturing new opportunities
• The proper execution of a managed services strategy as the critical component to being successful
This webinar is targeted at communication service providers and addresses how this challenging environment presents an ideal opportunity for service providers to explore alternative business models to maximize the investments and potential benefits that 4G offers. One key strategic approach in meeting this challenge is the effective use of managed services and outsourcing business models as a component of addressing this business transformation.

The Q&A session is now closed. Thank you for attending.
You mentioned the ‘rental’ of new apps. What would be some examples of that?
Hi Andreas, given that most telcos have multi-vendor, multi-technology, multi-generation networks, how would Al Lu ensure QoE?
MultiVendor support is one of our strongest assets. We work diligently with all the vendors in a customers network and ensure that the equipment, the network design and support contracts from the multiple 3rd parties can support the desired QoE of the customer. The effective management of OEMs and third party support companies with clear SLA/KPIs is one of the key foundations of a successful outsource contract.
In managed services/outsourced operations how do ALU handle the multi-vendor issue when it comes to SW-upgrades , patches etc for equipment from other vendors, e.g. Ericsson?
We have the industries leading model for Multi-Vendor Maintenance. We provide it in both our outsource contracts as well as sell it as a stand alone service. All aspects of service are included upgrades, patches ect. and do not present any issues, the equipment vendors understand we are acting on behalf of the customer. Our added value to the customer is a single point of contact and quicker resolutions for day to day issues because we eliminate the finger pointing that can go on between vendors.
Can you give some reference or example for full virtual network manage services network?
I want to be careful when we say full Virtual network manage service. The definition varies from customer to customer generally customers want to maintin all marketing and Planning fuctions, as they view that as critical to their business success.
how will the resource allocation be done for broadcast services like TV e.g., will each user get individual RF resources or there are broadcast regions etc?
Broadcast services are specific to a country, and will depend on how each country allocates spectrum and resources for mobile and over-the-air services
How do you see traditional IT services companies competing with telecom OEMs in the managed services space?
In this new environment where the line between traditional network and IT is become less meaningful it will create a new competitive landscape. However we see this really as an opportunity, our alliance with HP is an good example. We see the combined capabilities of our two companies as a real strong value for our customers. This alliance is the only one of its type in the industry
How do u see broadcast services to be on 4 G
This is a similar question, Broadcast services are specific to a country, and will depend on how each country allocates spectrum and resources for mobile and over-the-air services
Are Alcatel-Lucent providing a full range of applications (OSS/BSS/ecommerce/Mobile Apps platform etc) as part of their managed service offer ?
Yes we will be providing a full suite of OSS/BSS applications, we are developing applications, and working with a range of applications companies, to support both front-office (customer-facing) and back-office applications and infrastructure for LTE
As part of the end to end Managed Services offering to a Telco, Does Alcatel Lucent have strategic partnership with content Providers/ Handset vendors?
Yes we have relationships with content developers and application developers which are used to drive the application ecosystem which can be used in LTE environments. These relationships will help drive the revenue growth that will be critical for our customers
Is 4G growing faster in the US than in Europe?
It is interesting we are seeing a high degree of interest globally. Users world wide are demanding better and faster mobile connectivity. We are conducting trials throughout the world.
